Shipbuilding steel Grade A
Chemical designation | Shipbuilding steel Grade A |

Etching | 5% Nital |
In order to withstand the conditions on the high seas, shipbuilding steels with high strength, toughness and corrosion resistance have been developed, which must also be easy to weld. The grades range from A to F and are categorised according to their strength properties.
The present sample contains 0.15% C and 1% Mn and achieved a tensile strength of 490 MPa. The normally annealed microstructure shows pearlisation in the rolling direction.
