The normally annealed initial condition was soft-annealed (+A).
In the process, the cementite within the pearlite was largely recrystallised and is now predominantly present in a globular form. However, lamellae are still partially visible; furthermore, the carbon is mainly concentrated in the former pearlite grains and is not distributed homogeneously throughout the microstructure, as should actually be the case with successful soft annealing.
The hardness is 153 HV 1.
