In addition to the obviously larger pore in the weld seam, a large number of different phases are found on the way towards the base metal. In addition to the martensitic hardened area directly below the fusion zone (mechanism: self-quenching), pearlite (different states) and ferrite are also present in addition to martensite as the cooling rate continues to decrease.
