This hypereutectoid steel (sheet material 2×30 mm) with 0.98% carbon was normalized at 850 °C and slowly cooled in the furnace. The microstructure – typical for this material and heat treatment – is pearlitic with some secondary cementite on the grain boundaries. The average core hardness is 228 HV0.5.
