This hypereutectoid steel (bar material with ⌀ = 16 mm) was austenitised at 840 °C for 30 min, quenched in water and then tempered at 180 °C for 2 hours. The austenitisation temperature is in the correct range for this material (830 – 850 °C). The microstructure consists of tempered (cubic) martensite and secondary carbides (Fe,Cr-C) in both the rim and the core.
