The arsenic content of the brass alloy (here 0.10%) increases the dezincification resistance of the α phase, whilst aluminium (0.82%) enhances overall corrosion resistance.
The alpha-beta microstructure is present in the as-cast condition. The zinc-rich, less noble beta phase is etched more heavily and therefore appears darker.
The hardness is 96 HV 0.2.
