Shipbuilding steel A36
Chemical designation | Shipbuilding steel A36 |

Etching | 5% Nital |
In order to withstand the conditions on the high seas, shipbuilding steels with high strength, toughness and corrosion resistance have been developed, which must also be easy to weld. The grades range from A to F and are categorised according to their strength properties.
The present sample contains 0.13% C and 1.4% Mn and achieved 520 MPa tensile strength and 31% elongation at break. The normally annealed microstructure shows pearlisation in the rolling direction.
