“Nickel silver” refers to Cu-Ni-Zn alloys that combine a mostly silvery color with high corrosion resistance and strength and are used, for example, for musical instruments, jewelry, keys or in electrical engineering. Here, a single-phase structure of α-solid solution is present. The lead inclusions, which are insoluble in copper and improve the machinability of the alloy, were partially dissolved away during etching.
