Chemical designationC75S
State+N Normalized at 850 °C (furnace cooling)
Etching3% Nital

This hypoeutectoid steel (sheet material with cross section = 4 x 30 mm) with 0.71 % carbon (measured with OES; nominal: 0.7 – 0.8 %) was normalized at 850 °C for 30 min and then slowly cooled in the furnace.

There is an approx. 250 µm deep surface decarburization as well as some dark gray scale on the sample surface. In the core of the specimen, the microstructure consists entirely of ferrite and pearlite; the average hardness here is 313 HV1.
