The approx. 2.4 mm thick, induction-hardened surface layer has a hardness of up to 663 HV0.5 and consists of martensite and cementite (white/light).

Partially, the cementite is present in the molded-in (rounded) state; in part, remnants of a cementite network along the grain boundaries can still be guessed at.

The heat of the induction hardening has not reached the core, the hardness here drops to 185 HV0.5 (mean value).
In the transition area between the hardened surface layer and the core structure, the martensite is joined by ferrite with molded cementite and very fine-grained perlite (troostite).

The core microstructure consists exclusively of ferrite grains with molded cementite.
