The core structure exhibits a typical dual-phase structure of ferrite and martensite. The reason for this is the lower austenitizing temperature for the edge carbon content of 0.8%. For the core carbon content (0.16% C), one is not in the homogeneous austenite region but in the 2-phase austenite-ferrite region (GSP region in the iron-carbon diagram). The hardness is 410 HV1.
