This hypoeutectoid steel (bar stock with ⌀ = 30 mm) with 0.14 % carbon (measured by OES; nominal: 0.14 – 0.19 %) was austenitized at 950 °C for 30 min, quenched in water and then tempered at 250 °C for 2 hours.
The microstructure is pure martensitic and contains some gray manganese sulfides.
The core hardness is 350 HV5 on average.
