Numeric designation1.7225
Chemical designation42CrMo4
StateNormalised at 850 °C (furnace cooling)
Etching3% Nital

This hypoeutectoid steel (bar material with ⌀ = 28 mm) with 0.38 % carbon (measured with OES) was normalised at 850 °C and then slowly cooled in the furnace. The microstructure consists, typical for this material and heat treatment condition, of ferrite and fine and ultra-fine-grained pearlite. The average core hardness is 207 HV5.
