In this aluminium component, a cold run occurred during casting, i.e. a local, superficial material separation in the form of an overlap.
The melt solidified prematurely, for example because the casting speed or temperature was insufficient. The overlap is clearly visible in the micrograph, and a hot crack is also visible.
