Porous sintered sliding layer made of bronze and iron powder

Chemical designationPorous sintered sliding layer made of bronze and iron powder
Etching3% Nital

The porous sliding layer of bronze and iron powder was applied to a steel body.

According to the XRF, the sliding layer contains an average of approx. 55% Cu, 40% Fe, 4% Sn and 1% Ni, as well as traces of Pb and Zn. The C content could not be determined. Due to the formation of a galvanic cell, the iron grains etch slightly during polishing. The copper has diffused into the iron powder to varying depths, leaving dark seams in places. The steel body is normally annealed.
