This hypereutectoid steel (bar stock with ⌀ = 16 mm) was normalized at 840 °C for 30 minutes and then slowly cooled in the furnace.
The microstructure consists of finely distributed, round and non-contiguous carbides (cementite and chromium carbides) in pearlitic matrix.

The core hardness averages 256 ± 3 HV1.
