State+QW +T Annealed on cementite network, superheat hardened and tempered
Etching3% Nital

This hypereutectoid steel (bar material with ⌀ = 16 mm) was first annealed to form a cementite network and subsequently austenitized at 950 °C for 30 min, quenched in oil and finally tempered at 180 °C for 2 hours. The austenitizing temperature was above the temperature intended for this material (830 – 850 °C), so it was overheated.  The microstructure consists of coarsely needled, tempered martensite and residual austenite.

The core hardness is 711 ± 4 HV1.

Condition:

  • 950 °C / 60 min / oven
  • 950 °C / 30 min / oil – 180 °C / 2 h / air
