A rod eutectic is found mainly in eutectic compositions, which contain much more of one phase. Here, ZrO2 rods are present in an Al2O3 matrix, which have been ground vertically. The Al2O3-ZrO2 eutectic is at an Al:Zr (metal) ratio of 4:1 and melts at about 1830 °C. The particle was found in clinker.
