2.4605 | Alloy 59 Fatigue fracture vs. overload fracture of a wire

Numeric designation2.4605
Chemical designationAlloy 59

The macroscopically completely deformation-free fatigue fracture (crack starting point at a groove in the surface) shows fatigue striations with a strongly crystallographically characterized orientation. The overload fracture forced by static tensile load, on the other hand, is ductile and characterized by the typical dimple patterns.

Material: Alloy 59 (2.4605; N06059) with 23% Cr and 15% Mo.
