Machining brass, used for shaped turned parts, e.g. in precision mechanics. Here, an extruded and recrystallised structure is present. In the alpha-beta structure, the less noble beta phase is more strongly etched and therefore appears somewhat darker. The lead inclusions, which are insoluble in copper, are largely dissolved out during etching.
