Ductile overload fracture of a steel pipe with “tire tracks”

Chemical designationStahlrohres
StateDuctile overload fracture of a steel pipe with "tire tracks"

“Tire tracks” are the name given to streaky hammering or luting patterns in fracture surfaces, which occur during subsequent collisions of the fracture surfaces and which and attempt to simulate fatigue striation to the inexperienced observer. In this case, however, there is no fatigue fracture, but ductile overload fracture.
