Age-hardenable wrought alloy, the age-hardenability is based on precipitation of Al2CuMg (S-phase) and Al2Cu.
The alloy was also etched with a 10% phosphoric acid at 50 °C on customer request.
The results are not as nice as with NaOH. Furthermore, it is much more costly due to the heating of the phosphoric acid and therefore does not represent an added value.
Etching parameters:
- 5% NaOH: RT, 60 sec
- 10% H3PO4: 50 °C, 120 sec
- Barker etching: 20V,120sec, V2A electrode
