EN-GJL-250 (+P) | 5.1301 Increased phosphorus content, graphite classification and fracture appearance in tensile test

Numeric designation5.130
Chemical designationEN-GJL-250 (+P)
StateIncreased phosphorus content
Etching3% Nital

An increased phosphorus content was set for this sample. It results in higher wear resistance and better corrosion resistance. Cast iron with lamellar graphite, approx. 95% pearlitic matrix with ferrite and phosphide eutectic.
The microhardness of the phosphide eutectic (steadite) is 857 HV0.05.

Graphite classification according to EN ISO 945-1:2019

  • Graphite form I
  • Arrangement E
  • Guide number for the size range: 5

The SEM images show a force fracture by tensile testing. A transcrystalline, brittle violent fracture is present. The lamellar pearlite is clearly visible in the detailed images.
