EN-GJS-600-10 is a solid solution strengthened ferritic cast iron. It is characterized by a high yield strength, a high yield strength ratio (0.2 yield strength/tensile strength) of 75-80% and high ductility. It also has good machinability due to the single-phase microstructure, which provides a nearly constant hardness over the entire specimen cross-section. The microstructure is purely ferritic; some blowholes are present. The graphite formation is slightly degenerate in parts.

Graphite classification according to EN ISO 945-1:2019

  • Graphite form VI
  • Guide number for the size range: 6

The fracture surface of the tensile specimen shows honeycomb fracture with many exposed graphite spheres in the incipient area, and predominantly cleavage fracture with small proportions of honeycomb fracture (quasi-cleavage fracture) in the later course of fracture. This transition from ductile to brittle fracture behavior has to do with the increasing rate of fracture propagation.
