Numeric designation1.0535
Chemical designationC55
StateNormalised at 850 °C (furnace cooling)
Etching3% Nital

This hypoeutectoid steel (bar material with ⌀ = 27 mm) with 0.5 % carbon (measured with OES) was normalised at 850 °C and then slowly cooled in the furnace. The microstructure consists, typical for this material and heat treatment condition, of ferrite and fine- and ultra-fine-grained pearlite. The edge layer shows a surface decarburisation of approx. 150 µm. The average core hardness is 203 HV5.
