This hypoeutectoid steel (sheet material with cross-section = 4 x 30 mm) with 0.71 % carbon (measured with OES; nominal: 0.7 – 0.8 %) was austenitised at 830 °C for 30 min, quenched in water and then tempered at 250 °C for 2 hours. The microstructure consists entirely of tempered (cubic) martensite.
The average core hardness is 656 HV5.
