The microstructural pictures show an isothermal heat treatment condition (interstage tempering, bainitisation). The edge structure consists of lower bainite. The hardness of the surface layer is on average 291 HV0.5.
The core consists of upper bainite, martensite, fine-grained perlite (troostite) and free ferrite. The core hardness is in a similar size range as the surface hardness, but shows greater fluctuations of approx. 250 to 300 HV0.5 due to the segregation lines.
