1.7225 | 42CrMo4 Quasi-gap fracture

Numeric designation1.7225
Chemical designation42CrMo4
StateQuasi-gap fracture

A thin-walled component was plasma-nitrided on both sides. In addition, the thread was also nitrided. The fracture occurred as a force fracture (quasi-gap fracture) due to a cross-section of the component that had been stitched through. This resulted in extreme embrittlement. Only isolated fracture honeycombs are still present.

The core hardness is 270 HV0.5.
