ZL0400 | ZnAl4 Broken zinc die casting zipper loop

A domestic “case of damage”, which has certainly happened to everyone and which is no longer surprising when the component is revealed in the SEM to be a zinc die-cast predetermined breaking point. On the fracture surface, transcrystalline brittle fracture with dimples along the subgrain boundaries (quasi-cleavage fracture) is found. In the transverse section approx. 1 mm below the fracture only very few gas pores are noticeable. The component is copper-plated and probably nickel-plated; the dendritic microstructure is extremely fine.
